About Dr. Motiwala

Board-Certified Interventional Cardiologist Fellow, American College of Cardiology RPVI

Dr. Afaq Motiwala, M.D, FACC, RPVI is a board-certified interventional cardiologist committed to delivering advanced cardiovascular care with a personalized, patient-first approach. He cares for patients with the full spectrum of cardiovascular disease, including hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (abnormal cholesterol), coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndromes (heart attacks), coronary microvascular dysfunction, pulmonary embolism, peripheral vascular disease, and structural heart disease. Whether a patient needs preventive care, a second opinion, or a complex coronary intervention, Dr. Motiwala believes every individual deserves thoughtful, evidence-based care tailored to their unique goals and circumstances.

After earning his medical degree from Aga Khan University, Dr. Motiwala completed his Internal Medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, followed by fellowships in Cardiovascular Disease at Loyola University Medical Center (Chicago, IL) and Interventional Cardiology at Temple University Hospital (Philadelphia, PA). As an Associate Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at The University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), he has helped develop innovative programs in coronary microvascular disease and pulmonary embolism. He has also been actively involved in training and medical education, as well as cardiovascular research, with more than 30 peer reviewed publications. His strong academic background allows him to bring the latest advances in cardiovascular medicine to every patient he treats.

Dr. Motiwala's philosophy is simple: exceptional care begins with listening. He believes patients should be active partners in their healthcare and takes the time to explain diagnoses, review treatment options, and make decisions together. His goal is not only to treat heart disease but to help patients live longer, healthier lives. By emphasizing preventive care, optimizing medical treatment, providing close outpatient follow-up, and performing timely procedures when necessary, he strives to keep patients healthy, improve their quality of life, and avoid unnecessary hospitalizations whenever possible.
